Story

Emerald Lakers: A Legacy in Motion

Foundational Years (1989):
In the heart of 1989, the Emerald Lakers Basketball Club emerged with nine spirited teams venturing into the summer season of the Kilsyth Association. A culmination of dreams and aspirations, the club owes its origin to dedicated local families, notably the Huisintvelds, Clares, Blacks, Fullers, Bryants, and Terrys. The torch of leadership was first held by Kris Terry as the inaugural club president, with Kevin Terry stepping up as the pioneering coach.

Birth of an Identity:
Our club's distinct name and colours draw inspiration from the tranquil allure of our local Emerald Lake and its verdant surrounding woods. A unique twist came when a logo design competition was orchestrated by the committee. Emerging as the victor was Ben Bush, a team player and student at Emerald Secondary College. Our cherished club banner, a creation of Bill Black's artistry, has been a symbol of pride and continues to be displayed with pride.

Transition & Growth (Early '90s):
By the early '90s, under the stewardship of the foundational families, the club burgeoned to house 32 teams. A pivotal shift marked our association as we transitioned from the Kilsyth domain to the Knox Amateur Basketball Association (KABA), which has since evolved to become Knox Basketball Inc.

Leadership & Evolution (Mid '90s - Early 2000s:
The mid-'90s witnessed Gary Stephens infusing his business expertise as club president, refining its administration. Fred Barton followed in his footsteps in the late '90s, flanked by the vice-presidential efforts of Brett Rob and Fred Hauser. Together, they not only sustained the club's growth but also worked tirelessly on coaching and management fronts.

As 2002 dawned, Fred Hauser ascended as president with Charlie Borin backing him as Vice President. Their combined efforts fortified the club's bond with KABA, ushered in modernised uniforms honouring the original logo, introduced professional coaching to enhance player skills, and stabilised the club's finances with strategic sponsorships.

The Present Era:
Today, under the dynamic leadership of the 2025/2026 leadership team, the club radiates renewed vigour and direction. With a committee echoing their dedication, the club proudly showcases 32 junior teams, all dressed in uniforms that juxtapose the club's historic legacy with its forward-looking aspirations.

Ongoing Commitment:
The tale of the Emerald Lakers Basketball Club is rich with contributions from numerous parents, coaches, team managers, and committee members. Their tireless efforts and passion over the years have sculpted the club into the esteemed institution it is today.

As we honour our storied past, embrace our vibrant present, and anticipate an exciting future, we welcome all to be part of our ever-growing legacy. 🏀🌊🌲
