This year, we had two teams competing at the Southern Peninsula Tournament, alongside many other Lakers players representing their schools, VJBL clubs and tournament teams across Victoria.
One of the things we love most about the Southern Penn Tournament is the chance for players to team up with friends from other clubs across the Knox Basketball community. It's a great reminder that while we compete against each other during the season, basketball also creates friendships that go well beyond club colours.
Our U16s took on a tough division against older, bigger opponents. Despite injuries to Storm and James, and D'Art battling the flu all weekend, they never stopped competing, played with great spirit and had plenty of fun along the way.
Our U12s also had a fantastic tournament, and when we got home, we ran the numbers...
There were 90 Under 12 teams across 11 divisions. Our boys finished 5th in Division 2, the second-highest division at the tournament. For a group that was playing in Division 7 just 12 months ago, that's an incredible step forward.
It also says a lot about the standard of competition. Southern Peninsula isn't "just" a domestic tournament. Representative players and representative-heavy teams from across Victoria all compete together, so every game is earned.
Finally, a shout-out to every Lakers player who got out there and participated in a 3x3 tournament, another tournament, or a basketball camp over the school holidays.
\Well done to all our players, coaches, team managers and families. You did the Lakers proud.
