Considering Representative Basketball? Understand the Knox Raiders Pathway First

If Raiders is on your player’s radar, now is the time to get organised. Some of the next pathway opportunities are happening within weeks, not months.

Knox Basketball has a structured pathway into its Junior Raiders representative program, and the pathway your player follows depends on where they are currently playing and whether they have previously played VJBL.

Coming from Emerald Lakers and new to rep?

If your player currently plays Knox Domestic with Emerald Lakers and has never played VJBL, the pathway is Step into Rep.

Players are assessed by Knox coaches during the program, with suitable players invited to register for Raiders Tryouts

Have a younger player interested in Raiders one day?

Don't wait until tryout time to start thinking about development.

Knox offers development programs including Future Raiders Academy, providing younger players with opportunities to develop their basketball before reaching the representative pathway.

Already playing VJBL at another association?

Players who have played VJBL with another club follow Knox's Transfer Player pathway. They must complete the transfer process and identified players are then invited to register for Raiders Tryouts.

So if Knox Raiders is your player's longer-term goal, don't assume playing rep somewhere else first will make it easier to transfer into Raiders later.

Already a Knox Raider?

Current Raiders players can register for the Raiders Tryouts.

For 2026/27, Knox advises that the tryout process consists of four sessions and players are expected to attend all four.

Our advice to Lakers families

If Knox Raiders is the goal, start building towards Knox Raiders early.

Keep playing Knox Domestic with Emerald Lakers, take advantage of appropriate development opportunities and understand the pathway before making decisions about representative basketball elsewhere.

None of these programs guarantee Raiders selection. Players still need to earn their place.

But knowing how the pathway works can help families make informed decisions about their player's basketball development.
